Joyce M. Eager, 81, of Lancaster, died Saturday, February 17 at Mennonite Home.
She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of the late Norman and Marjorie Schlemm. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Eager; and two brothers, Norman Schlemn (Rose Marie) and Charles Schlemn (Nancy).
Joyce was president for the William Kamp Advertising Agency and was also employed at Village Vista. She volunteered for many years at St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia, helping to coordinate summer carnivals and organizing a group of residents that played handbells and was known as “The Perky Chimers.”
Joyce loved cooking, crafting, playing tennis, watching football, traveling to San Francisco, and spending time at her vacation home in Wildwood Crest, N.J. She was especially fond of her collies, Antigone, Loki, Penny, and Skara.
She is survived by a son, Brad Lee Meyer (Sherrie) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a stepson, Harold J. Eager Jr. (Ellen) of Lancaster; a stepdaughter, Cynthia A. Rice (Charles) of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Rice (Mary Anne) of Boalsburg and Alison M. Robinson (Gavin) of Chesterbook; a great-granddaughter, Hazel D. Robinson; a sister, Faye Beck (Merv) of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the many nurses and staff at Mennonite Home and Hospice for their care of Joyce during her time there.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the patron’s choice.
