Karen Louise Stevens

Karen Louise Stevens, 64, of Lititz, PA passed away peacefully March 13 at Ephrata Manor. She was born March 4, 1948 in Lancaster, PA and is the daughter of Richard I. Stevens, Sr. and the late Jean Hilton Stevens.

Karen was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Lititz where she was active in the Adult Choir, the Bell Choir, and served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. She was also instrumental in creating a library for the church.

Karen was a graduate of McCaskey High School, Millersville State University in 1970, and then earned a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Drexel University. She was the school librarian for Valley Elementary School in Bensalem, PA for 30 years and was a member of PA State Education Association (PSEA) and the National Education Association (NEA). After her retirement, she volunteered as the librarian for Londonderry Private School in Harrisburg, PA.

An accomplished quilter and seamstress, Karen was a member of Newtown Quilt Guild and the Greater Philadelphia Dress Shop Users Group. After moving to Lititz, she became a member of the Lebanon Quilt Guild. Her quilts have been displayed at various quilt shows where she received awards and honorable mentions.

In addition to her father, she is survived by a brother, Richard I. Stevens, Jr (Rick) and sister-in-law, Randee of Harrisburg, PA, nieces Abigail Stevens of Phoenixville and Molly Stevens of Harrisburg, an aunt Eleanor Stevens of Ephrata, PA and an uncle Charles Stevens of Decatur, GA.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, MARCH 24, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Luke’s U.C.C., 222 N. Broad St., Lititz, PA with the Rev. Robert Bistline officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private in Conestoga Memorial Park, Lancaster, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Luke’s UCC Memorial Fund, 222 N. Broad St, Lititz, PA 17543 or the American Cancer Society, in Memory of Karen Stevens, 480 Norristown Rd., Suite 150, Blue Bell, PA 19422.
