Katherine Gschwend Miller, 39, of Lancaster, PA died Thursday, November 24, 2011. Kate was the daughter of Dorothy Moore Gschwend and Dr. Paul Gschwend III, of Lancaster.
A 1990 graduate of Lancaster Country Day School, Kate earned her B.A. degree from Trinity College in Hartford, CT. She completed her Masters in American Studies at the College of William and Mary. Kate was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She loved to read and took pride in her extensive book collection. Kate was a published scholar, accomplished bassoonist, and a varsity athlete in crew. She was an energetic and dedicated 6

grade English teacher at LCDS and cherished her time with her students. Her generosity and capacity for fun allowed Kate to form many friendships that meant the world to her. Kate’s imaginative spirit, creative sense, and compassionate nature fostered the wonderful relationships she had with her 3
sons who inspired her to be a devoted mother.
In addition to her parents, Kate is survived by three sons, Joseph Edwin (Jed), James McCool (Jamie), and John VanNoort (Van)Miller, all at home; and her sister, Dr. Jennifer G. McGough, wife of Dr. Paul J. McGough, of West Chester, PA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Kate’s life at St. John’s Episcopal
Church, 321 W. Chestnut St., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, December 3
rd
at 1:00pm. The family will greet friends at a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the service. A private interment will be held at a later time.
In devotion to her children, Kate asked that in lieu of flowers, any desired contributions be made to a trust established for
their education. In accordance with her wishes contributions can be made to Joseph E. Miller and funds will be divided equally among Kate’s children for their education. Donations can be sent to P.O. Box 6071, Lancaster, PA 17607.
