Kathryn L. Smaling, 100, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Westminster Village in Dover, DE.
She was the wife of the late John F. Smaling who died in 1973. Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Richard P. and Clara Ludwig Haas.
Mrs. Smaling had been employed as the manager of Barrcrest Apts. in Lancaster for 35 years. Prior to that, she had worked for the B. F. Barr & Sons Nursery. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lancaster, the Women’s Garden Club and the Iris Club. Kathryn enjoyed needlework and had taught several crewel embroidery classes at the Landis Valley Museum.
Surviving is a daughter, Kathy Ranzinger, of York.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Stephen P. Verkouw officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment in the Lancaster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
