Kenneth A. Burnette entered immortality on March 16, 2012. Chaplain Burnette was Director of Pastoral Services and Clinical Pastoral Education at Lancaster General Hospital from 1978 until he retired in 1998. Prior to that, he had founded and directed the chaplaincy and the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Altoona Hospital. Earlier, he had completed his clinical Pastoral Education at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital and Bowman-Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, where he served as assistant director of Pastoral Care.
A native of Lynchburg, VA, he graduated from Bluefield College, The Univ. of Richmond and The Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was also an adjunct professor at the Lancaster Theological Seminary.
He was the son of the late Robert Austin, Sr. and Nellie Ayers Burnette. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Austin Burnette, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Gwenne Hartman Burnette and a son, Michael from Midlothian, VA, two daughters, Pamela Stehman of Conestoga, and Teri Adams of Lancaster, and six grandchildren.
Chaplain Burnette was certified by the College of Chaplains, the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, and the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
Following retirement he served as interim pastor at the Willow Street United Church of Christ and as a parish associate at the First Presbyterian Church at Lancaster. He provided leadership and training for the Stephen Ministry at First Presbyterian Church.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service from First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster PA on Thursday, March 22nd at 11:00 A.M. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the Lancaster County Council of Churches-Food Bank, 344 N. Marshall St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
