Kenneth I Phelps age 93 of Little Egg Harbor passed away on January 13, 2018. Born to Raymond and Evelyn Phelps of Morristown NJ . Ken graduated Morristown High School in 1942 and was a volunteer draftee for the US Army in 1943 he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1946 from WWII and enlisted in the Army Reserve, he was recalled to active duty in the Korean War from 1950-1952. Ken received a BS in education from Rider College in Trenton , Master of Science in education from Temple University in Philadelphia and did additional graduate work at Trenton State College and Georgian Court College in Lakewood. He taught a total of 31 years , 4 years at Tuckerton High School and 27 years at Southern Regional High School where he was supervisor of the Business Education Department. Ken was a life member of the Tuckerton First Aid Squad, the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Co. and the NJ State Fireman’s Assoc. He served 11 years as secretary of the Little Egg Harbor Fire Relief Assoc. Ken met his wife while they were students at Rider College. He married Shirley Cobb of Canton NJ on June 21, 1952, at the time of his death they had been married 65 years and were still very much in love. Ken is survived by his wife Shirley, daughter Candace and her husband Michael Graff of Mays Landing , grandsons Michael J. and wife Lauren of Mays Landing, Christopher and wife Hannah of Sicklerville and Justin and wife Amanda of Williamstown. Ken also has 5 great granddaughters Hayden, Makenna, Raleigh, Avery and Oaklyn.
Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to a viewing on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit 220 E. Main St. Tuckerton NJ 08087. Requiem Mass and Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 12 noon at the church. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery Tuckerton at a later date. Military Honors will be given at the ending to the visitation.
