LaRue M. Helm

LaRue M. Helm age 96 passed away on Thursday July 25, 2024, at Brethren Village, Lititz PA. LaRue formerly lived in Willow Street and spent winters in Venice Beach FL.

She was the loving wife of the late Wiliam R Helm (died 2002) for 50 years. LaRue was born in Greencastle PA on April 3, 1928, to parents Roy R. Monn and Ruth Fox Monn. She was preceded in death by her brother Roy Monn Jr. LaRue is survived by a son, William R. Helm Jr. of Lancaster and a daughter, Jean A Deihm (Douglas) of East Petersburg: Grandchildren Kristin Helm of Mount Joy and Brian Helm (Christie) of Maytown; Courtney Mullins (Eric) of Midlothian, VA, Ross Deihm of Ephrata, Dr. Carly Deihm (fiancé Dr. Mitchel Daugherty) of Syracuse NY. She is also survived by great grandchildren Trevor & Nolan Helm and Bennett, Leighton and Dalton Mullins. LaRue is also predeceased by and survived by many wonderful friends. To have a friend in LaRue meant you had a true, loyal, great friend for life.

LaRue graduated from Elizabethtown College, where she was inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame. She taught in the Lampeter-Strasburg School District for over 30 years as a 3rd grade teacher at Willow Street Elementary. LaRue was a one of a kind, gifted, schoolteacher who was known for hosting her class of 3rd graders overnight for the Memorial Day weekend.

LaRue was a member of the Lancaster Church of the Brethren. She was a founding member of the Willow Street women’s club. Her favorite hobbies include learning while traveling (Elderhostel’s), quilling, playing bridge, WI bowling, ping-pong, shooting pool and participating in the Senior Games into her nineties.

LaRue was a very active member of the Brethren Village community for the last 15 years. She was well known for her quilling notes and cards. She also helped to establish and grow the women’s billiard club at Brethren Village.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at the Chapel at Brethren Village, Lititz, PA on August 14, 2024, at 11am. Friends may greet the family from 10-11am at the Chapel.
