Linnea N. Abbott
Linnea N. Abbott, 93, of Brethren Village passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29th, following a brief illness.
Linnea was born on August 14, 1921, daughter of the late Selma (Blumquist) and Albert Nygren who came to the United States from Finland in the early part of the 20th century and settled in the Bronx, New York. She was proud of her Scandinavian heritage and still kept in touch with relatives living in Finland. Linnea married her loving husband, the late Richard L. Abbott in November 1942.
Dick and Lynn spent most of their married life in Mendham, NJ. Upon retirement, they moved to Southern Pines, NC and enjoyed a few years there before Dick died in November of 1984. Linnea moved back north in 1994, living in Valleybrook before moving to Brethren Village in 2007. She was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Linnea is survived by three children: Linnea (Abbott), wife of Jack Sikora, of Old Saybrook, CT; Martha (Abbott), wife of Dale Matt, of Lititz, PA; and G. Richard Abbott of Hummelstown, PA; Six grandchildren: Beth (Sikora) Labriola, Tempe Sikora, Amy (Matt) Hull, Laura (Matt) King, Allison and John Abbott, and three great granddaughters: Caroline Labriola, Abby and Erica Hull.
The family wishes to thank the kind and compassionate caregivers of the Courtyards at Brethren Village and also Hospice & Community Care who made her final days peaceful and comfortable.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 6

, at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Dr. Roger P. Rabey officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Private interment will be in the Memorial Gardens at Highland Presbyterian Church following the service.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, anyone desiring to make a gift in Linnea’s memory should make a contribution to Highland Presbyterian Church and specify the “Steeple Fund” in the memo line. It was Linnea’s hope that someday Highland would have a steeple and cross which would be seen by all who pass by.
