Lois A. Witmer, 88, a resident of Landis Homes, died Thursday, January 12, 2017.
Born in West Lampeter Twp., she was the daughter of the late Arthur G. and Katie H. Witmer.
Lois graduated from Penn Manor High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Mennonite College and her Master’s from Millersville University. She started her teaching career by teaching at Locust Grove Mennonite School for 15 years. She then taught at Faith Mennonite High for 12 years and at Linville Hill for two years. Lois spent two years working for Choice Books Caribbean Ministry in St. Croix and Puerto Rico from 1989-1991.
Lois was a member of the Willow Street Mennonite Church where she had taught Sunday School and Bible School. Her interests included writing, flowers and music.
Surviving is a brother A. Clyde Witmer of Lititz; three sisters, Anna wife of John Miller of Stuarts Draft, VA, Ethel wife of Elwood Swartzentruber of Kalona, IA, and Dorothy Hess of Logan, OH; and a sister-in-law, Naomi Shenk Witmer of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Garman and by a brother J. Donald Witmer.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, at 12:00 Noon at the Willow Street Mennonite Church, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA with Pastor Joe Sherer officiating. Friends may call at the East Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Benevolent Fund at Landis Homes.
