Lucille S. Sanders, 83, of Lancaster, entered into rest at her residence in Woodcrest Villa, on October 11, 2014. She was born on October 30, 1930 to the late Lois and William Francis Smallwood in New Haven, CT.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Thomas G. Sanders, of Lancaster; four children, Barbara (Henry) Folb, of Pittsburgh, Patricia (Douglas) Smith of Lancaster, Margaret (Neal) Reichard of Ephrata, and Jesse (Betsy) Sanders, of Millersville; eight grandchildren, and one great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her only sister, Frances Nelle Clay.
She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, and after getting married and having children she worked as a middle school secretary in Poland, Ohio, and as an administrative assistant to researchers at Cleveland University Hospitals.
Lucy loved many crafts, demonstrating her talents in sewing, knitting, tole painting, quilting and rug hooking. She was honored to have had one of her pieces featured in Rug Hooking Magazine. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed bird watching.
The family is grateful to the many caregivers whose assistance made it possible for Lucy to spend her final years at home, and for the support of her dear friend Joy Harmount.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 15, at Church of the Apostles United Church of Christ, 1850 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Memorial Gardens at Church of the Apostles U.C.C.
