M. Christine Strickler, 91, a resident of Woodcrest Villa, formerly of Marietta Avenue, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center with loved ones by her side.
She was married for 68 years to her best friend and high school sweetheart, Martin “Marty” B. Strickler, Jr. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Roy G. and Merta Warfel Hershey and granddaughter of the late George H. and Christie Ann Warfel, whom she was raised by following the passing of her mother six weeks after her birth.
Christine was a graduate of the former Landisville High School and the Lancaster School of Business. She was employed as a secretary by Armstrong and Daffin Industries, and then retired as the corporate secretary of M. Strickler, Jr., Inc. In addition to her professional career, the job she held most dear was her job as homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and surrogate grandmother to many.
She was a long time member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Rohrerstown where she had been a former choir member and the former director of the Children’s Choir. Christine’s passions were music and spending time with family and friends. Christine sang at many a wedding and even recorded a very special record for her sweetheart Marty as he served overseas during World War II.
Surviving besides her husband is daughter, Cathy J. wife of Robert Kreider of Lancaster; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, Christie A. (Kreider) wife of Stephen Bock and their children Haley E. and Michael S. Bock of Apex, NC, Randall husband of Tiffany Kreider and their son Aidan J. Kreider of Columbia, Matthew husband of Kerry Kreider and their son Caleb R. Kreider of East Petersburg; Dale A. Strickler, Daniel A. Strickler and Devin A. Strickler of Mountville as well as many loved nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by son, Dale Alan Strickler and by daughter-in-law, Dori Strickler .
Services and interment in the Silver Spring Cemetery will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Strickler’s memory may be made to the Salem United Church of Christ, 2312 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.
