Margaret S. Fisher, in her 103rd year, of Lancaster, joined our Heavenly Father on May 27, 2023 at the Glen of Willow Valley. She was the loving wife and partner of the late Dr. Wallace E. Fisher.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Earl D. and Louise C. Stauffer. She graduated from Gettysburg College and held a graduate degree from Carnegie Mellon Institute. She was married for 55 years to Wallace E. Fisher. They had one son, Paul Mark.
Margaret Fisher had been graciously and effectively active in the life of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Lancaster, which Dr. Fisher served as senior pastor from 1952 – 1982. She served as church school teacher, discussion group leader, lay counselor, parish visitor and as founder and teacher for the Friday Bible Fellowship for twenty years.
Mrs. Fisher had multiple involvements in community life in Lancaster and the county. She was president of the following organizations: Lancaster County Mental Health Association, Embreeville State Hospital Board, Church Women United of Lancaster, Lancaster General Hospital United Auxiliaries, and the Women’s League of Gettysburg College.
The Fishers lived in Pinehurst, North Carolina from 1982 -1996. Here she was on the vestry of Our Saviour Lutheran Church, a well-received community Bible teacher and popular speaker, as well as a Women’s Exchange and hospital volunteer.
Upon returning to Lancaster, she resumed her community service as a tutor for Bosnian and Chinese children at Reynolds Middle School, a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and at Lancaster General Hospital as well as a volunteer at Willow Valley Manor North where she resided.
At the time of her death, she was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, the American Association of University Women, the Iris Club, Lancaster Historical Association, as well as Hospice and Community Care Women’s Giving Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, their son, Paul Mark Fisher, and a brother, George E. Stauffer. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Lizanne P. Fisher, one nephew, George E. Stauffer, Jr.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S Duke St., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Monday, June 12
th
at 1:00 PM. The family will greet friends informally following the service.
