Margaret Jane Hendricks – Born – October 21, 1924; Died – July 27, 2013
Margaret graduated from Wyomissing High School and Albright College in Reading and received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Yale. Following graduation, she worked the night shift in the Emergency Room at Bellevue Hospital in New York City for 7 years. She then moved to the West Coast spending some time in Seattle, WA and finally settling in Laguna Beach, CA where she continued her active nursing career. Margaret loved scuba diving and snorkeling and spent her vacations in Tahiti, Tonga and other South Pacific islands pursuing her passion. She returned to Wyomissing in 1973 to take care of her aging parents and her Aunt Mary.
Margaret loved pets and was a passionate protector of the environment. She raised two Great Danes from pups and always had several cats and dogs around the house. An avid gardener, she enjoyed planting flowers in her backyard. She helped out her neighbors by walking their dogs and taking care of their pets.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Florence (Shalter) and E. Raymond Hendricks as well as her brother John Hendricks who lived in Lancaster, PA. She is survived by her nephew Richard Hendricks and her niece Marjorie Wissler, both of Lancaster. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at the Laureldale Cemetery Chapel, 4631 Pottsville Pike, Reading PA on Monday, August 12, 2013 at 11:00am – a luncheon reception will follow. Contributions in Margaret’s memory can be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
