Marian Herr Ek, age 88, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, April 29th. She was the daughter of the late Edwin Clark and Maude Gontner Herr and the wife of the late Arvid Ek.
Born and raised in Lancaster, Mrs. Ek attended Upper Leacock High School and graduated from Gettysburg College in 1943. She moved to Massachusetts and worked as a librarian at the Harvard Business School and Beaver Country Day School. After her marriage, she resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she was the librarian at Shady Side Academy Middle School for twenty years.
After the death of her husband, she returned to Lancaster. Her love for her family and her lifelong interests in Lancaster County, First Presbyterian Church and antiques filled her time.
Mrs. Ek is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Ek, wife of Joel Wittenberg of Sudbury, Massachusetts; two sons, Edwin Clark Herr Ek of Santa Monica, California and Erik, husband of Sue Ek of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Ruthie Wittenberg and Rachel Wittenberg, Lauriston Benjamin Herr Ek and Joseph William Ek; and her sister, Mary Jane Haines of Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service from Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery, corner of Hans Herr Drive and Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA on Saturday, May 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Randolph T. Riggs officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 140 E. Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
