Marie Rutherford

Marie Rutherford (nee Shorrock), 86, of Lancaster passed away at BrethrenVillage on Friday, December 28, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nellie (Hodge) Shorrock. She was married to the late Russell H. Rutherford for 57 years and lived in the East Falls section of Philadelphia until 2006.

Marie was a homemaker and also ran a cake baking business from her home in Philadelphia for over 35 years.  She enjoyed painting and hosting family gatherings.  Marie was a lifelong member of the East Falls United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and was a volunteer fundraiser for Thomas Mifflin Elementary School and the Falls of Schuylkill Library.

She is survived by a son, Robert J., husband of Nancy Edwards Rutherford of Lititz, and a grandson, Matthew Robert Rutherford of Lititz.  Also surviving are two brothers, Arthur Shorrock husband of Jean of New Hope and Ernest Shorrock husband of Dorie of Mechanicsburg.  She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service in the Chapel of Brethren Village, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 PM.  Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Interment will be held at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, PA on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 11:00 AM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie’s name may be made to the Discovery Corner Preschool Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
