Marion R. Steele, age 98 of Willow Valley Communities, Lancaster County PA. passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024.
Born in Cleveland Ohio she was the daughter of the late John Gifford and Mary E. Rodan. She was the loving wife of Warren J. Steele who preceded her in death. They were married for 49 years.
A graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School, Haddonfield NJ, Marion earned her BA degree from Bucknell University in 1948. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
Following her graduation, Marion and Warren were married and moved to Collingswood NJ. Once their two children were in school, Marion became a teacher in the Haddonfield School System.
In later years the couple lived in Dayton, OH and St. John, IN. They retired to Cape May County, NJ in 1987, where Marion became an active member of the South Seaville United Methodist Church and the Stone Harbor Women’s Civic Club. They both enjoyed boating, crabbing and clamming. Marion loved the beach and became a volunteer beachcomber guide. She also volunteered with the Blind Center of the Jersey Cape.
Willow Valley became Marion’s home in 2004, and she thoroughly enjoyed her life there with many friends. She participated in playing bridge, swimming and tap dancing. Marion was also a volunteer at the Welcome Center and Assisted Living. She was a faithful member of the Willow Street United Church of Christ. Visits with her family were the highlights of her days.
Surviving is her son, Warren G. Steele, husband of Barbara, Sea Isle City, NJ; daughter Janet, wife of Clinton Harris of Bayport NY. Four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Marion was predeceased by her brother, John G. Rodan Jr. and sister June R. Kralicek.
Marion was a kind and giving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Service and interment in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Ocean View NJ will be private and held at the convenience of the family and under the care of DeBord Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory 141 E. Orange St. Lancaster PA 17602.
