Marjorie D Herrmann

Marjorie Delancy Herrmann, 91, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025, at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. Marge was born in Pittsburgh to Olive and Warren Delancy and was the sister of Clare, who predeceased her. Marge attended Peabody High School, graduated from Allegheny College with an AB in Elementary Education, and taught second grade in Lakewood, Ohio.

Marge was married for 40 years to the late Richard “Dick” Hays Herrmann, whom she met in college and married in 1956. Living first in Cleveland and later in Birmingham, Michigan, Marge and Dick raised three children. Marge spent many years as a volunteer at their schools and as a Sunday School teacher.

Her sons survive her along with their wives and children: Kurt and Anne of La Jolla, California, and their daughters, Sarah and Elizabeth; Bill and Maria of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and their daughter, Sydney; and Gary and Laura of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, and their sons, Jack and Charlie. Marge also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.

Marge moved to Lancaster in 1988 and was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Deacon and in many other capacities. She was a member of the Coterie Club of Lancaster, the Towne Club of Lancaster, two Bible study groups, and several bridge groups. Her interests also included needlework and gardening. Shortly after moving to Lancaster, Marge and Dick spent a year in Belgium, where his work was temporarily based, and they traveled extensively across Europe. 

On Saturday, February 22, a visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. After the service, a light lunch will be held at the church, followed by an internment at Landis Valley Cemetery, located at the intersection of Landis Valley Road and Oregon Pike in Lancaster.

In remembrance of Marge, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Hospice and Community Care, 4075 Old Harrisburg Pike, Mount Joy, PA 17552, or to Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster, PA 17601.
