Mark R. Sheely 63, of Lancaster, died on April 11, 2021 at Hospice & Community Care after having lived over 20 years with stage IV cancer. Mark is survived by his loving wife, Marianne (DeVerter) Sheely, to whom he was married for 41 years.
Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late James J. Sheely and is survived by his mother, Janet (Wiker) Sheely.
Mark was a jeweler for more than 40 years, first attending the Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, PA for the jewelry repair and stone setting course, then the Gemological Institute of America for the Diamonds course. He worked in wholesale and retail operations in both Lancaster and Salt Lake City. Mark opened his own retail store, Mark R. Sheely Jewelry, in 2001 and continued operations until 2018.
Mark enjoyed a wide variety of sports and outdoor activities, including ice hockey, volleyball, baseball, mountain biking and skiing, and was proud to have run the Red Rose 5 Mile Run in 1978. Later in life, he remained an active walker, and enjoyed taking annual trips to hike in Sedona, Arizona and Corrales, New Mexico. He also enjoyed pencil sketch drawing and was an avid reader.
In addition to his wife and mother, Mark is also survived by two sons, Ryan Sheely (husband of Rachel Dougnac) and Adam Sheely (husband of Courtney Cooper); a grandson, Rafael Matthew Dougnac-Sheely; two brothers, Scott Sheely (husband of Jacquie Sheely) and Bruce Sheely (husband of Jeanette).
