Martin T. “Meek” Novak

Martin T. “Meek” Novak, 85 of Lancaster Pa., passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at home. Born in Manayunk, Pa., he was the son of the late Frank and Veronica (Bodnar) Novak. Marty grew up in the Roxborough-Manayunk section of Philadelphia where he attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and Roxborough High School. He would have celebrated his 86

. He was the loving husband of the late Rose M. “Skeets” (Valenti) Novak.

In 1950 Marty entered the service to fight in the Korean War. Marty was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while in the Korean War. The army report read: “He distinguished himself for action on September 24 near Satae-ri as a medical aid while in defensive positions that were under severe attack. In addition to assisting wounded men and carrying them to the rear area positions, he also helped bring up ammunition all the time under murderous fire from the enemy.”

Marty was employed in the printing department at Container Corporation of America in Manayunk for over 30 years. Skeets and Marty were long time members of Visitation B.V.M Catholic Church and Sandy Run Country Club. His family, relatives, friends, golfing buddies and neighbors were of great importance to him, and he loved spending time with them. He was an avid Eagles and Flyers fan, loved to play golf, go hunting with his brothers and nephews and attend athletic events at Conestoga Valley High School.

Marty is survived by his son Gerad F. Novak and daughter-in-law Gina M. (Walker) Novak of Lancaster. Preceding him in death are his three brothers and sisters, William, Joseph, Frank, Julie, Margaret and Barbara.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial service that will be held at Visitation B.V.M. Catholic Church, 196 N. Trooper Road, Trooper, PA on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 12:00 noon. Marty will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
