Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Shaffer

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Shaffer, 87, of Conestoga, died at home on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Prior to moving to Conestoga, Betty had resided in Millersville for 59 years.

She was married 66 years to Burton T. Shaffer, Jr. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John Dull and Bertha Mae Brenner Dull Deets. She was the stepdaughter of the late Robert Deets.

Betty was a graduate of Penn Manor High School and a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Millersville, where she had been a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher for many years. Betty was a past Worthy Matron with the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #315. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and playing the piano.

Surviving besides her husband is a daughter, Linda E. Shaffer of Conestoga, and a son Burton T. Shaffer III of Lancaster.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Grace United Methodist Church, 163 W. Frederick St., Millersville, PA with the Rev. John Laughlin officiating. Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at the church on Wednesday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. An Order of Eastern Star Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7:30 P.M. Interment in Conestoga Memorial Park. If desired, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 163 W. Frederick St., Millersville, PA 17551.
