Mary Ellen Hershey

Mary Ellen Hershey, 74, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully and entered into the loving arms of her heavenly Father on September 7, 2012.

Born on June 10, 1938, in Paradise, PA, she was the daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Rousseau. She is survived by four brothers: J. Edward, Clarence Stauffer, Richard J., and Robert F.; and was preceded in death by her sister, Eunice Rousseau.

Mary Ellen was the devoted wife of Richard R. Hershey. The couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.  A homemaker all her life, she provided love and care for her own children in addition to fostering over 85 children for the past 40 years.  Few have been given the gift of nurturing she possessed and used daily to bless and encourage all those who entered her home.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster where she faithfully served in the nursery for over 30 years.

She is survived by her husband and 9 children: Richard , husband of Carol (Gainesville, GA); Cindy, wife of Jim Lux (Lancaster); Sharon, wife of Dennis Mylin (Willow Street); Suzanne, wife of Jim Ritchey (Lancaster);  Steve , husband of Hannah (Lancaster);  Matthew, partner of Samantha McMullen (Lancaster);  Melanie, wife of Craig Underhill (Fort Lauderdale, FL); Nicole (at home); and Daniel, husband of Tori (Lodi, New York), along with 20 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster on Saturday, September 15, 2012, at 10:30 am.  Friends may greet the family from 9:00 am until the time of the service.  Interment will be in Calvary Monument Bible Church cemetery in Paradise, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Christ’s Home for Children, 3182 Lincoln Hwy East, Paradise, PA  17562.  Online donations in Mary Ellen’s memory may be made at
