Mary Jane Ruth With her family by her side, Mary Jane Ruth passed peacefully to the Church Triumphant on Sunday, November 14,  2010. The only child of Sid and Ada Grossman Roth, Mary Jane was born on January 4, 1923, in Lancaster where she resided all of her life. She was a 1941 graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School. During World War II, Mary Jane served as a supervisor in the Fuse Department of Hamilton Watch Company. United in marriage on January 19, 1944, Mary Jane was a homemaker and a devoted

wife to her husband, Elwood F. Ruth, for thirty-five years prior to his death in 1981. During her mother’s extended illness over many years, Mary Jane provided loving personal care. Surviving are Mary Jane’s son, Stephen E., husband of Rev. Mary-Margaret Ruth of  Lancaster; a sister-in-law, Miriam Potts; a nephew, Richard Kirchoff; a niece, Kathryn Wilson; and cousins, Diane Sick, Mary Ann Styer, Paul Tshudy, Larry Moyer and Ed Moyer. Mary Jane was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church since 1979.

The family extends profound appreciation to the staff of Conestoga View, whose love and professional attention to Mary Jane’s needs went above and beyond the protocols of responsibility, and who ensured dignity and tenderness to Mrs. Ruth in her last sixteen  months of life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service from St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran  Church, 700 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, November 23, at 11:00 A.M., with the Rev. Peter Schwabe- Fry officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:30 A.M. until the time of service. Private interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery will  take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Ruth’s memory may be sent to St.  Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 700 Pleasure Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. Arrangements by Kearney A.
