Mary Jane (Hershey) Landis, 98, died at Landis Homes Retirement Community on 12/11/2024. She was the wife of C. Elvin Landis. They were married for 52 years before his death in 1999.
Mary Jane was born in Lititz, PA on October 23, 1926. She was the daughter of D. Paul and Sue (Snyder) Hershey. She graduated from Rothsville High School in 1944.
Mary Jane and Elvin raised six children in Leola, PA. She was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church for many decades. She was actively involved in sewing circle, quilting, taught Sunday School and participated in ministries when Elvin was a deacon.
Together they offered aid to others by volunteering with Mennonite Disaster Relief and by hosting ”Fresh Air” children and international students. Other activities that Mary Jane enjoyed included gardening, volunteering, knitting, painting, crocheting, cooking and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin, sister, Lois (Hershey) Noll, brothers, Paul Jr. Hershey (infant), Richard Hershey, daughter, Ruth (Landis) Thomas and son-in-law Don Warnick.
She is survived by five children: Mary Ann Warnick of Lititz PA, David Landis marriedto Barb (Noll) of Lititz, PA, Jan Kurtz married to Ken Kurtz of Waynesville, North Carolina, Donna Landis Brubaker married to Dave Brubaker of Philadelphia, PA and Christine Landis married to Steve Friesen of Hillsboro, Oregon.
She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Private burial at Stumptown Mennonite Church. Memorial service to be announced.
