Mary Lou Shuman

Mary Lou Rohrer Shuman, born March 2, 1931, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 12, 2015.  She and her husband, James R. Shuman, would have celebrated their 63

rd

wedding anniversary together on March 2, 2015.  She was the daughter of the late Amos G. Rohrer and Faye Musser Rohrer of Salunga, PA.   She was pre-deceased by her siblings, Guy M. Rohrer, Lois M. Rohrer, Clair M. Rohrer, and Gene Dale Rohrer.  She is survived by her two children, James R. Shuman, Jr. married to Kathleen Hess Shuman of Middletown, PA and Annette L. Liew married to Thomas Liew of Easton, PA.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, 3 boys and 3 girls, and 2 great-grandchildren, twin boys.

She was a member of The Community Church at Garden Spot Village where she and her husband have lived for the past seven years.  Mary Lou was a secretary and bookkeeper for her husband’s masonry business.  She was also a charter member of the Hempfield Women’s Club and helped to start the Hempfield Meals on Wheels where she prepared and delivered meals for many years.  She was a caregiver for her sister Lois for over seven years.  Her hobbies were sewing, cross stitching, quilting, painting, knitting, cooking and baking.

She and her husband were short term missionaries in the Brethren-in-Christ Church.  They helped to build a church in Caugua, Venezuela South America where she was the head cook for 12 people.  She also served as a cook for MDS in Sanford, FL.  She and her husband had a mountain property in Perry County where they spent many joyful weekends and many weeks hunting and fishing after retirement.  They also traveled extensively in their motor home to nearly all of the lower 48 states and Alaska and Canada.  They were also privileged to travel to numerous Caribbean islands, several times to Mexico, Hawaii, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China.

A Memorial Service for Mary Lou will be held on Sunday, March 1

, 2015 at The Community Church of Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA at 2:00 PM with Pastor Chet Yoder officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the benevolent fund at Garden Spot Village at the address shown above.
