Marybelle (Crawford) Enslen, 93, of Lancaster, PA, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, after a year of rapidly declining health during which she lived with grace, faith and fortitude. She was the daughter of the late Glenn M. and Mabel Montgomery Crawford.
She was born on May 31, 1921, in Latrobe, PA. Marybelle went on to graduate from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA with a B.A. in Business. She lived most of her adult life in Wilmington, DE, where she worked as a docent at Hagley Museum for many years. While in Wilmington Marybelle was an active member at the Hanover Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon. She also was a devoted volunteer and board member at the Kentmere Nursing Home, and a member of the Female Harmony Society.
Almost 19 years ago Marybelle and Gerry moved to the Willow Valley Retirement Community in Lancaster, PA, where she continued a vital, involved life of volunteering at a local elementary school, hiking, walking, knitting, sewing, flower arranging, reading, enjoying good food, and, most especially, spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald E. Enslen, of Lancaster; three children, a daughter, Nancy E. Mathewson (John), of Asheville, NC, and two sons, David C. Enslen (Kathy), of Kansas City, MO, and Donald E. Enslen (Karen), of Harrisonburg, VA; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Pathe (John), Elisabeth Enslen, Sarah Brown (Jarred), Nathan Enslen (Jill), and Paul Mathewson; six great grandchildren, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Autumn, Ryan, Gabrielle, and Weston; a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Marilyn Crawford, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and their spouses and children.
Marybelle is predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Robert Beswick. She also lost one great granddaughter much too early, Alexis.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Celebration of Marybelle’s Life, in the sanctuary at the First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602, on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Donald Hackett officiating. Family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
