Mattie Evans Greiner passed away peacefully on August 26, 2010, at the age of 103.
Mrs. Greiner was born on September 11, 1906, in Greenville, NC. She grew up in Greenville, where she attended East Carolina Teachers’ College. She later graduated from Richmond (VA) Business College and moved to Raleigh, NC, to work for the state unemployment office as an accountant. She married John W. Greiner of Mount Joy, PA, in 1944 and moved to Lancaster, PA, where her husband worked as an architect. She moved to Flemington, NJ, in 2006, to be close to her son’s family.
She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. She was also a member of The Towne Club and was a Red Cross hospital volunteer for 14 years.
She is survived by her two sons, J. Philip Greiner of Flemington, NJ, and Dr. William E. Greiner of Seattle, WA, four granddaughters, and one great grandson.
Services will be held Monday, August 30, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, to be followed by burial at Conestoga Memorial Park. There will be a viewing on Sunday, August 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA.
