Melvin E. Miller, 86, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, March 27, at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He went home to be with his beloved wife, Mary Ann and his daughter, Barbara. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Keller Miller, who died in September of 2011.
Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late William Sherman and Mary Worrell Miller.
Melvin was owner of W.S. Miller & Sons where he was a house painter for over 40 years. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1944.
Melvin was a member of the Lancaster County React Team. He was also Chief of the Wheatland Fire Company from 1973-1978 and Assistant Chief of the Bausman Fire Company from 1984-1989. He was a 32
nd
degree Mason, Lodge #43 F&AM, a member of Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Zembo Shrine.
He served in the United States ARMY as a Cryptologist during WWII, and participated during the Nuremberg Trials.
He is survived by two sons, Melvin E. Jr., husband of Jeanette Miller, and Richard S., husband of Katrina Miller; grandchildren, Melvin “Poke” E. Miller III, Jennifer, wife of Craig Rhineer Jr., and Amanda Miller; great grandchildren, Nicole, Morgan, and Zachary; and a sister, Ethel, wife of Richard Duncan. He was predeceased by his daughter, Barbara Miller, and two brothers, Stanley Miller and William Miller, and a sister Miriam Mazakas.

, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. John C. Rieker officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Interment in Riverview Burial Park.
