Mildred Marian Landis Peters, 102, of Julesburg, CO passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Julesburg. Mildred was born May 16, 1912 in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania to Emmanual Rudy and Esta Leamon (Roher) Landis. She graduated from Steven High School in 1930 and then spent 2 years in nursing school at Osteopathic Hospital in Philadelphia. She then attended Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA. On September 12, 1936 she married H. Elvin Peters. To this Union five children were born, Pierre, Eunice, Phyllis, Kennith, and Ronald all whom were born in Belgian Congo.
Mildred spent 50 years from 1936 to 1981 as a missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo under CB International. She & husband Elvin were founding members of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster, PA. It was started by Dr. Hydt who also started the Bible College of which she was in the first graduating class. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Julesburg since moving here in 2008. Mildred was a Lancaster Bible College alumni and enjoyed writing letters and visiting shut-ins.
Mildred is survived by a son Pierre A. Peters and wife Tess of Freemont, CA, son Ronald E. E. Peters and wife Wendy of Salem, OR, and daughter Phyllis and husband Leighton Vary of Julesburg, CO, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband H. Elvin Peters, son Kennith Peters, and daughter Eunice M. Peters.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service at Grace Baptist Church, 1899 Marietta Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, July, 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Grace Baptist Church, Julesburg, CO for far Eastern Broadcasting Station.
