Mildred V. Suter

Mildred “Millie” V. (Rutter) Suter, 89, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Lancaster Regional Medical Center.  She was the wife of Donald K. Suter, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.

Born in Lancaster on October 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Elwood L. and Mildred L. (Sener) Rutter.

After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School, Millie worked until the birth of her and Donald’s only child.  She spent the rest of her time here on earth dedicating her life to that child, her husband and of course, the Lord.  She enjoyed preparing family holiday meals and having her family around the table.  Family was always a priority in her life and cherished time spent with her son, then her grandson, and later with her four great-grandchildren.   Millie was a kind, loving, and warm person; a gentle soul who rarely raised her voice in anger.  Millie was a true lady in every way.  Millie was a loving daughter, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and servant of the Lord.

Mildred was a longtime member of Boehm’s United Methodist Church, in Willow Street, PA.  She was in the choir for many years, and thoroughly enjoyed volunteering for various church related charities such as providing necessities for shut-ins, volunteering at the local hospitals, and kitchen duty at the annual week long spiritual retreat at the Bible camp in Rawlinsville.  Millie also liked playing the Marimba, both at church and in her spare time.  She spent much of her time with various crafts but crocheting was one of her favorite pastimes; making bonnets, shawls, afghans, and hats for her beloved great grandchildren, the shut-ins and women’s shelters.

She is survived by her husband, Donald K. Suter, of Lancaster; a son, Barry, husband of Violetta Rose Suter, of Lancaster; a grandson, Kenneth, husband of Charlene Suter, of Manheim; four great grandchildren, Damien, Serenity, Danica and Braden, all of Manheim; and a sister, Shirley Shertzer, of Holtwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Mildred Rutter.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Boehm’s United Methodist Church, 14 W. Boehms Rd., Willow Street, PA 17584 on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Chris Eden officiating.  Friends are invited to greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of service.  Interment will immediately follow the service in the Boehm’s United Methodist Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mildred’s memory may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. BOX 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
