Miles P. Frye died Thursday, October 25, 2012 in Lancaster, PA with his wife and children near.
He was born in Calais, Maine on September 5, 1923, the son of Miles and Josephine Frye. He graduated from the University of Maine and Boston University with his Law degree in 1951, after a tour in the Army Air Corp during World War II where he attained the rank of First Lieutenant.
Mr. Frye then went to work for what is today the Maine Revenue Service where he was an Assistant Attorney General from 1951 to 1954. During his time there, he wrote portions of the Maine State Sales Tax law which is still in existence today. In 1954 he joined what became the Weeks, Hutchins, Frye, Welch and O’Donnell law firm where he became a partner in 1958 and was still working part-time taking care of his clients until the age of 72 when he retired. His specialty was wills and deeds and he was a member of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, as well as the Waterville, Kennebec, Maine and American Bar Association’s. The Maine Bar Association recognized his fifty years of service with an award at the Samoset Resort. His accomplishments included being a director of The Federal Trust (later Merrill Bank, then Fleet Bank). Mr. Frye was also a member of the Waterville Rotary Club. In his profession he represented the Kennebec Sanitary District and was instrumental in helping with the development of the Industrial Park where the Elks Club and UPS have been established.
Mr. Frye is survived by his wife Muriel P. Frye whom he loved dearly. He was also father to daughter Rebecca Marin and spouse Harold Marin and son Andrew Frye and spouse Dr. Gladys Frye. He had three grandchildren, Stephanie Purnell and spouse Kevin Purnell , Andrea Frye, and Reed Frye and an anticipated great grandchild Brynn Purnell.
Mr. Frye had a passion for taking photographs of his family as his greatest love was being around them. He became Committee Chairman of troop 436 of the Boy Scouts when his son was a member and followed his daughter from horse show to horse show when she was young. He also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Boston Bruins and routing on his teams. In later years he and wife Muriel did some traveling and enjoyed their life together. He will be greatly missed by his family as he was always there to lend a hand or give his support to all they did.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m., Friday, November 2nd at the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 60 Eustis Parkway, Waterville, ME 04901. Following the service, Mr. Frye will be interred at 2:00 p.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta, ME 04330. All are invited to attend. Afterwards, everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life gathering at the Augusta Elks Lodge #964, 397 Civic Center Drive, Augusta, ME 04330.
