Millicent Clara Grotyohann “Dixie” 97, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Willow Valley Communities. Millicent was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George and her son Kirk.
Millicent was born November 6, 1926 in Keezletown, VA. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School. Millicent met her husband, George, while vacationing in Spring Mount, Pennsylvania and later married in 1948 in Philadelphia. In 1954, they moved their family to Springfield, Delaware County, Pennsylvania where they raised their family.
Millicent began her career as a wife and mother of four children and in 1964, began working in Sales at Springfield Strawbridge and Clothier. After 23 years of service, in 1987 Millicent retired and she and George moved to Conway, South Carolina enjoying the beaches and warmth of Myrtle Beach. In 2000, missing friends and family, they relocated to Willow Valley Communities in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Among many hobbies, Millicent could be found planning and planting her gardens every spring. She enjoyed shopping at the Farmers Market every Saturday, baking, sewing, and camping with her family. Relatives always referred to Millicent as the “Best Baker” in the family.
Millicent is survived by her children, Lee Grotyohann of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, David (Barbara) Grotyohann of Savannah, Georgia, Melissa (William) Kewley of Havertown, Pennsylvania, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
The Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Peace, Laurel Hill Cemetery, 225 Belmont Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA , Thursday, January 18
th
, 2024 at 11:00 AM followed by interment.
