Miriam J. Rudy, 93, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 after a brief stay at ManorCare Health Services. She was the loving wife of the late William G. Rudy, who died in 2007.
Born in Hecton, PA, in 1922, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. Jones and L. Lacretia Lyter.
Miriam graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor Degree in Music Education. She spent most of her working career in music both as a choir/music director and as a music teacher. She had been choir director at both Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lancaster and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marietta, PA.
Miriam was a member of the former Lancaster County Historical Society and she volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital (now known as Lancaster Regional Medical Center) for over fifteen years.
She was a devoted member of St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lancaster, PA.
Miriam had lived in Evergreen Estates Retirement Community in Lancaster, and often expressed her fondness of the residents and staff there.
She is survived by three nephews, Michael D. Rudy of Danville, CA, Stephen D. Rudy of El Cerrito, CA, and Peter W. Rudy of Berkeley, CA.
In addition to her husband William listed above, Miriam is predeceased by her son, James W. Rudy, of Lancaster.
Friends are respectfully invited to honor Miriam by attending a memorial service at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Craig A. Ross officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, Neffsville, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miriam’s memory may be made to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Lancaster History.org (formerly the Lancaster County Historical Society).
