Miriam M. Ober, 84, of Conestoga PA passed away peacefully on September 2
nd
2018 at St. Anne’s Retirement Home.
She was the loving wife of Jacob S. Ober for 63 years. She was born in Smithsburg MD to the late Joseph and Ruth Clugston.
She was an active member of Grace Baptist Church of Lancaster. Mim was instrumental in starting the GBC coffee station which has become a key gathering place for coffee, cookies, and fellowship on Sunday mornings. Mim loved the Lord, loved caring for people, and loved time with family. Her career and personal life revolved around entertaining and hospitality. She will be especially remembered for her impeccable sense of style and ability to fill a room with laughter.
Mim’s career path included many jobs, but most were related to hospitality including Walter W. Moyer Company, Stella Herr’s Bakery, Willow Valley Restaurant, John Herr’s Village Market Deli, owner of Lancaster Catering, and banquet manager of Sherwood Knoll/Comfort Inn. Mim enjoyed traveling, and especially recent winters in Florida, cross country train trips, and any time spent with family.
She will be lovingly missed by her children and family: Bonnie, wife of Dale Mann of Mountville, Brenda, wife of Greg Schmalhofer of Lancaster, Dale Ober of Conestoga, companion Cindi Moses of Mountville, Dean Ober, husband of Deb of Lancaster, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The grandchildren are Jared (Ashley) Miller, Kyle (Katie) Miller, Alex (Amy) Miller, Emily Schmalhofer, Adam Schmalhofer, Holly (Tim) Deubler, Brittany Ober, Justin (Kirstyn) Ober, and Brooke Ober. The great grandchildren are Cole Miller, Ann Miller, Ella Miller, Owen Miller, and Charlotte Miller.
Mim is survived by her sister E. Ruth (Galen) Miller. She was predeceased by brothers Leon, Paul, Merle, and sister Joyce Hershey.
Relatives and friends are invited to Grace Baptist Church, 1899 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603 on Monday September 24th for a visitation at 5:30 and a Celebration of Life service at 6:30. Coffee with cookies will follow the service.
