Miriam P. Rorabaugh, 79, (aka Teacher Miriam) of Lancaster, PA, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was the devoted wife of the late John L. Rorabaugh, Sr.; the nurturing, hard-working, and supportive mother of Daniel Garcia (husband of Rose), Paul Garcia (husband of Pastor Liza) and Dr. Joy Tien (wife of Andrew); the caring adoptive sister-aunt of Nonie Kennedy; and a loving grandmother to her 7 grandchildren: Raine, Laurice, Dan Christopher, Donita, Jacob, Joshniel, and Timothy, and 2 great-grandchildren: Michael and Noah.
She served God and others generously with her time and resources. She dedicated her life to prayer and proclaiming the love of Christ, and touched many lives. She exemplified faith, hope, and charity. She was conversational, a social butterfly, and built of sweetness.
Born December 23, 1936 in Tigaon, Camarines Sur, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Andres Uy and Bonifacia Esmenda Paronda and the sister of surviving siblings Jean Sy, Ruth Lim, Anna Marie Go, and Lillian Ednaco. She was survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and preceded in death by other siblings Magdalena Paronda, Judith Tan, and Reuben Paronda.
Miriam was an active member of Willow Street UCC and formerly of New Providence UCC, volunteered for the women’s auxiliary, supported numerous charities and organizations for good cause, and a faithful prayer warrior. Prior to migration to the US, she was a deaconess, a pre-school and Sunday school teacher, and counselor at the Cosmopolitan Church in Manila for 25 years. She completed high school at the United Institute in Daraga, Albay, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education at Philippine Christian University in Manila. She had passion for traveling, gardening, cooking, music, arts and crafts, and participating in West Lampeter and Solanco County Fairs. She loved to sing and had the voice of an angel as a church soloist. She now joins the choir of angels in worship and praise to our wonderful Creator, Savior, and Lord.
