Nancy Aileen Deering, 90, of Ronks, PA, passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2023. Born in Carlisle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Ailene Himes. She was the wife of Gene Deering, with whom she shared 34 years of marriage.
Nancy grew up as the daughter of an army officer and lived in many places around the world, including Japan; Atlanta; Fort Lee, VA; Newport, RI; Thailand; and Los Angeles. In her adult years, she settled in Bergenfield and, later, Midland Park, NJ. Nancy was employed for 25 years by Pathmark, after which she worked for Friendly’s restaurant. Nancy and Gene retired to Lancaster County, PA, in 1999.
Nancy was a member of Faith Church, and was active in the Ambassador Sunday school class, Faith Quilters, and Faithful Seniors. She also participated in the Strasburg Senior Citizens club. She enjoyed bike rides and walks around her neighborhood as well as porch conversations with many neighbors.
In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her three children: William O’Melia, husband of Linda; Maureen Hoffman, wife of James; and Michael O’Melia; three step children: Kevin, Kathleen, and Carolyn Deering; four grandchildren (Shane Richter, husband of Susanna; Tanya Richter, wife of Justin Jorgensen; Tess O’Melia and Samuel O’Melia); twelve step grandchildren (Michelle, Michael, Melanie, Katelyn, Kyle, Kurt, Ryan, Brendan, Stephanie, Julie, Tara, and Alex); two great grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and her brother, Don Himes. She was predeceased by her step son, Michael Deering (Lucy) and her brother, Joe Himes.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 12, 3 p.m. at Faith Church, 2124 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Church.
