Nancy J. Dotterer of Lancaster passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 in her apartment at Brethren Village where she had just moved. Nancy was the loving wife of the late Kenneth H. Dotterer, Sr. who passed away Feb. 21, 1987. They were married 32 years.
Born in Lancaster, PA on July 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Anna A. Kautz and Vernon J. Smith.
Nancy was a 1952 McCaskey High School graduate and stayed in touch with many friends from McCaskey after graduation. Nancy enjoyed sending cards and sunshine boxes to family, friends and the sick. For many years she helped in the Lancaster Church of the Brethren church kitchen cooking, including countless funeral meals for church members. Nancy was a homemaker most of her life but worked for UGI, Lancaster Moravian church as custodian and Kaufhold’s Machine Shop as office manager. She enjoyed knitting and spending time with her family, TOPS club and card games.
Nancy grew up at attending Lancaster Moravian Church and held the church in her heart. Ken and Nancy transferred to Lancaster Church of the Brethren and were very active.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her children: identical twins Linda J. Burton wife of John of Neffsville, Sally A. Hostetter wife of Bob of Millersville, Kenneth H. Dotterer husband of Debbie of Ephrata, fraternal twins Jeffrey D. Dotterer husband of Barbara of Lancaster, Joanne M. Bitterman wife of Grant of Willow Street and Charlene L. Slater wife of William of Lititz. Nancy loved her grandchildren, Kimberly Burton, Darlene Neustadter wife of Nate, Christopher Burton husband of Jessica, David Bitterman husband of Heather, Sarah Slater, Deborah Bitterman, Laura Slater, Deanna Bitterman, Danae Bitterman, Samantha Slater, Adam Burton and Daniel Bitterman. She is survived by step-grandchildren Leroy, John, Dena, Laura, Daniel, Raymond and Kristel Robertson. She is survived by 2 great-grandaughter’s, 1 great-grandson and 2 babies on the way due in 2014. Also survinging is her only sister Barbara S. Snead wife of Waylon Snead of Raleigh, N.C., brother-in-law Donald N. Dotterer husband of Lorraine, brother-in-law Harold Benedict, great aunt’s Dorothy Kautz and Catherine Smith as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Nancy’s Funeral service on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1401 Sunset Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601 with the Reverend J. Calvin Wenger and Reverend Jeffrey B. Rill officiating. The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM and from 10:00 – 11:00 AM the day of the funeral at Lancaster, Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Neffsville at Neffsville Lutheran Cemetery.
