Nancy K Schlegel

April 24, 1939 — December 19, 2024

Lancaster

Nancy Marie Kling Schlegel passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, surrounded by family.  Nancy was born on April 24, 1939, in York, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother, her sister and her husband, E. Wayne Schlegel, Jr.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Kimberly and son-in-law, Bill Boscow, of Wilmette, Illinois. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Will Boscow of Lakeville, Connecticut; Matthew Boscow of Chicago (fiancée, Nicole Karabas); and Liza Boscow of Evanston, Illinois.

Nancy and Wayne met at Penn State, and they married in 1961. Wayne died in 1989 after a battle with cancer.

A resident of Lancaster since 1962, Nancy was an avid volunteer in the community. She served the Lancaster County Library for over 30 years as a board member and as president for 4 years and successfully led an effort to raise capital for the automation of the county libraries in the 1990s.   She also served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations: Historic Preservation Trust; United Way National Council on Alcoholism (which she helped charter in the 1960s); Historic Lancaster Walking Tour; Lancaster County Day Care Center; and the Samaritan Counseling Center. Nancy was also a sustainer in the Junior League of Lancaster.

Nancy was a longtime and active member of Highland Presbyterian Church.  She served as an Elder, a Trustee, Permanent Nominating Chairperson and a member of the Personnel Committee, the Capital Campaign committee and of the search committee for the Director of Christian Education.

Nancy was an outgoing person and thrived on personal interactions. The family is grateful for the love shown to Nancy during her challenges. Many of her friends stepped in when the family was far away.

We also want to thank the entire staff at her retirement community, Homestead Village, for making her time there special and for comforting her and us in her final moments.

A memorial service will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11 AM. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10 am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Highland Presbyterian Church -Memorial Fund; 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster, PA 17601
