Lancaster

Nelda C. Kauffman, of Lancaster, passed away on September 12, 2024, at Trillium Place (formerly Mennonite Home), just having celebrated her 94th birthday.

Born on September 9, 1930 in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of Harry E. and Helen S. (Shearer) Coble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jean C. Wilhelm, brothers Richard J. Coble and Donald E. Coble, and her former husband, Richard L. Kauffman.

After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School, Nelda began working as a telephone operator with Bell Telephone, eventually leaving her supervisor position to stay home with her young children. When her children were school age, she began a 35 year career working in the Penn Manor school district cafeterias where she retired in 1996, after nine years as kitchen manager at Pequea Elementary school. Nelda loved working with the elementary children, forging a special connection with many of them.

Following her retirement, she spent time with friends, neighbors and her grandchildren. After moving to Woodcrest Villa, she enjoyed volunteering at Woodcrest, especially the MarketPlace and hosting open house for new residents.

Nelda was a faithful member of Millersville Community United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a lifetime member of PASR (Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees) and a member of Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed serving on her McCaskey class reunion committee for many years.

Nelda is survived by her children, Beverly Kalasky (Tom), Fairfield, VA and R. Scott Kauffman (Luci), York, PA, grandsons Andrew Kalasky (Hannah), Charleston, SC and Austin Kalasky, Lancaster, PA, and her new greatest joy, great-grandson Finn Kalasky.

The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the compassionate and caring staff of Masonic Village Hospice, and Hospice and Community Care Lancaster.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Woodcrest Villa, Eagle Commons Chapel, 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA, on Friday, September 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
