Nelson F. Moury, Jr.

Nelson F. Moury Jr., 85, of Willow Street, PA, passed away on March 23, 2013 at Lakeside, Willow Valley. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 17, 1927. and was the only child of the late Ruth A. (Pundt) and Nelson F. Moury Sr. He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Jeanne C. (McNaul) Moury of Spring Run, Willow Valley.

Nelson graduated from Northeast HS in Philadelphia, PA in 1945 and enlisted in the US Army Medical Corps as a Surgical Technician with service in the Army of Occupation Japan until honorably discharged in March 1947. He graduated from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA with a BS in Biology in June 1950 and met Jeanne during his undergraduate studies. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College with a Medical Doctorate Degree in June 1954 and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He performed his medical internship at Cooper Hospital in Camden, NJ and obtained a medical license in the state of Pennsylvania.

After three years of Residency, Nelson entered into partnership with Dr. Wallace G. McCune in Internal Medicine in Germantown, PA. He was board certified in Internal Medicine 1961 and recertified in 1974. He was a Staff Member and Teaching Fellow at Thomas Jefferson University, Germantown and Temple University hospitals until 1974. He was also a Staff Member at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia until 1974. He opened his own Internal Medicine practice in 1974 in Broad Axe, PA and conducted house calls until he retired in 1993. He was a former member of the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Philadelphia County Medical Society, College of Physicians, American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and Clinical and Experimental Society in Hypnosis. He authored or co authored five articles on hypertension and glucose in malignant cells during the 1960s. He lived in Lafayette Hill, PA until 2003 when he moved to Willow Street, PA.

He was an Elder of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, PA where he taught many Adult Christian Education seminars. He became a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, PA in 2004 when he moved to Willow Valley. He served as a Boy Scout volunteer and had a passion for the study of history. He traveled extensively to Europe, the Middle East, Japan, Hong Kong and Africa as well as within the United States, Mexico and Canada, but always enjoyed time spent with his family.

Additionally, he is survived by three children, Kevin A. Moury of Harrisburg, PA, Carol L. (Moury) and Ross H. Schwalm of Woodbridge, VA, and Clayton S. and Barbara A. (Bond) Moury of Oxford, PA, and his five grandchildren, Clinton O. Moury, Sean A. Moury, Ross N. (Allison) Schwalm, Afton L. Schwalm and Connor P. Schwalm.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Lakeside at Willow Valley for their dedicated care, where Nelson will be remembered for his great smile. A memorial service will be held on Saturday 11:00 AM April 6, 2013 at Spring Run Auditorium, 950 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Willow Street, PA. The family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
