Nelson K. Myers, Jr., 80, of Lancaster, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Nelson K. Sr. and Mary Regina Rote Myers. He celebrated 56 years of marriage on June 24th with his wife, Betty L. Bennett Myers.
Nelson served as an Officer in the U. S. Air Force. He received his Bachelor’s degree in music from Gettysburg College. He worked as a loan officer for Commonwealth National Bank and then for PennDOT until retirement. After retiring, he worked at John Herr’s. He also taught piano for many years. He was known for his quick wit.
He was a lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church where he was a member of the choir. He wrote many compositions for both his family and church, including music for the church’s 100 year celebration. Family, faith and music were his three great loves. He was a wonderful husband and father who gave his love unconditionally. We were truly blessed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: 2 sons, Donald N. Myers of East Petersburg, John B. husband of Jacqueline Myers of Lancaster; 2 daughters, Mary E. wife of Kevin E. Nissly, and Susan L. wife of Tim Garber of Lancaster; 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Heather, Brandi, Melissa, Lauren, Ian, Aaron, Gretchen and Lucas; 8 step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Kim, Todd, Amanda, Allen, Eric, Talia; 2 great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Skyler; 4 step great-grandchildren, Bella, Sophia, Brayden, Addison. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Wenger.
Funeral Services will be held from Grace Lutheran Church 517 N. Queen St. Lancaster, PA 17603 on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at 11 AM with Pastor Stephen Verkouw officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM at the church on Wednesday. If desired, contributions in Nelson’s name may be sent to Grace Lutheran Church.
