P. Abbott Asplin, 96, a resident of the Mennonite Home, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014.
He was the husband of Kathryn E
. Juslin
Asplin. His first wife, the late Dorothy Harding Asplin died in 1996. Born in Lehighton, he was the son of the late Chester R. and Minnie May Emmert Asplin.
Abbott retired from Armstrong World Industries where he had been employed as a Personnel Manager. He was a graduate of Franklin and Marshall College where he had played football and basketball. He had played minor league baseball for the Lancaster Red Roses and the Bradford Bees. He was inducted into the Franklin and Marshall and Carbon County Hall of Fame.
Abbott was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ. He had served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Anthony A. husband of Joan Asplin of Chapel Hill, NC, and Thomas H. husband of Carol Asplin of Lancaster. Also surviving are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. John W. Morris officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the March of Dimes in memory of his great granddaughter Abigale Rose Jacoby, March of Dimes Greater Oregon Chapter, 1220 S.W. Morrison Suite 510, Portland, OR 97205 or the Heart Association of Lancaster, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603. Our Dad is on his final journey to his Field of Dreams.
