Parke K. Harnish

Parke K. Harnish, 87, formerly of Willow Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Landis Homes.  Born April 8, 1925, he was the son of the late Enos C. and Ella (Kreider) Harnish.  Parke is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn (Widders) Harnish, of Landis Homes.

Parke operated an IGA store in Willow Street in his early years, worked in excavating with Ben Groff, drove school bus, and retired from Andrews Excavating after 25 years of driving truck.  In his retirement years he delivered parts for E. M. Herr Farm and Home and John E. Landis, Inc.  He was a member of Willow Street Mennonite Church, where he served as janitor for many years.  He enjoyed puttering in the yard and garden, hosting corn roasts, and spending time with his family.  He was a fun-loving, easy-going husband, father and grandpa who will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives: Robert L. married to Brenda (Moser) Harnish of Castorland, NY, and Herbert L. married to Ruth (Breneman) Harnish of West Willow; and two daughters and their husbands: Kathy H. married to David E. Landis of Lampeter, and Debra J. married to J. Edwin Kilheffer of Millersville.  He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Jennifer K. (Straley) married to Dwight L. Rohrer, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Parke was preceded in death by a son, Steven L. Harnish ; five brothers: Aaron K. Harnish, Amos K. Harnish, Clayton K. Harnish, Enos C. Harnish, Jr. and Lloyd K. Harnish; and three sisters: Elizabeth K. Weaver, Anna Mary Peifer, and Esther Mae Dagen.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the Willow Street Mennonite Church, 399 E. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, PA with the Rev. Robert A. Breneman and the Rev. Dwight E. Rohrer officiating.  Friends may call at the Willow Street Mennonite Church on Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Interment in the adjoining church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA  17543.
