Paula Metash

Paula Metash, age 99, passed away peacefully with her loving daughters and son-in-law by her side on Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Ephrata Manor.  She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and then moved with her family to Minneapolis in 1923.  She met her beloved husband, Carl Metash, in Minneapolis, and they married in 1935.  They later settled in New Jersey where they lived until 1983 when they moved to Pennsylvania.  Paula was a devoted homemaker, a wonderful cook, a skilled seamstress, and an avid gardener.  Outside the house Paula and Carl traveled extensively and were part of a bridge club that met regularly for decades.  Paula was also a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art; she visited the museum weekly to attend lectures and to view the exhibits.  While living in Pennsylvania she was a member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society where she did volunteer work in Philadelphia.  Paula was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away in 1986; her grandson, Daniel Brown, who passed away in 2011; and her sisters Dorothy Karlson, Gertrude Virnig, Elfrieda (Sissy) Clark, and Hilda Kretschmer.  She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Metash of Landisville, PA; and Janice Gui (married to Kenneth) of Jackson Township in Stark County, Ohio; grandchildren Laura Walker (married to Curtis) and Peter Brown (married to Jennifer); and four great-grandsons.  Paula will be greatly missed by all.  A memorial service will be planned later.
