Peggy Lewis Barton, age 96 of Lakeside at Willow Valley passed away October 16, 2023. Born in Philadelphia she was the daughter of Harold F. and Hazel Shultz Lewis.
Peggy was employed by the New Jersey Public School System as a Teacher for over 25 years. She graduated from West Chester State Teacher’s College, Princeton Theological Seminary and Trenton State University.
Peggy was a member of 1st United Methodist Church, Lancaster and was a member of various organizations during her life and included the United Methodist Women, Retired consecrated Diaconal Minister in the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference, Associate Director of Christian Education for the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference as advisor to the local New Jersey United Methodist Churches, she was a volunteer of Christian education classes for over 60 years in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and was the Director of Children’s Ministries at the Princeton United Methodist Church and Haddonfield United Methodist Churches.
She was affectionately known as “One of the Lewis girls.
Her interests included classical music, hiking, traveling and theater.
Predeceased by her husband Edward R. in 1983, her daughter Bonnie Irwin and her sisters Esther Bjornstad and Sheila Hamilton, she is survived by her son Robert L. Barton, her grandchildren, Ryan Nathan Irwin husband of Julie Sayer and Aaron Matthew Irwin, husband of Julie Burns, great grandchildren, Ella Jean Irwin, Colin George Irwin, Sebi Irwin, Amias Irwin and Daisy Irwin, her sisters Frances Pratt and Harriet Fisher DiFabio, many nieces and nephews.
Private interment will be held in Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick NJ.
