Priscilla “Pat” Fields, 84, of Lancaster, died on Aug. 29, 2011, at Hospice at Mount Joy after a brief illness. Pat was predeceased by Jack, her husband of 63 years, who died July 15, 2011. Life changed for her after his death. Previously she had lived in Beaver and Coraopolis, PA, before moving to Lancaster in October of 2009.
Born May 4, 1927, in Irondale, Ohio, she graduated from Beaver High School in 1945. Before she married in 1948, she worked for an auto dealership. An organic gardener before it became fashionable, Pat tried growing everything from cotton to peanuts; she tended a large vegetable garden and canned much of the bounty. During the winter months, she spent her time using her skills in carpentry making durable furniture that is still in use today. With her dry wit and lively sense of humor, Pat was never reluctant to express her strong opinions, even to the end.
The daughter of the late Sara Anderson Fagan and William Fagan,
Pat is survived by her daughter Jacquelyn F., married to David H. Gustafson, grandchildren Carl Gustafson, husband of Kelly Frey, and Katie Gustafson; her beloved sisters Margaret Ann F. Klingensmith and Janet E. Fagan of Mt Lebanon, sister-in-law Olive Mae Fagan of Chardon, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Pat will be remembered by those who knew her as a woman who embraced a simple life style.
It was Pat’s wish that there be no viewing or service. Donations can be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17605-4125.
