Rev. J. William (Bill) Anderson, 86, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Mennonite Home in Lancaster, PA. Bill was the husband of Leona McMinn Anderson who resides at the Mennonite Home.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary Anderson. Bill and Leona considered their family to be a true blessing and treasure.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cindy Schoonmaker of Lexington, NC; two sons, Mark Anderson (Kim) of Shillington, PA and Rob Anderson (Beth) of York, PA; grandchildren: Jennifer and Keith Dasch of Lexington, NC; Kelly and Ben Ross of Shillington, PA; Betsy and Matt Forrer of Shillington, PA; Erik and Stephanie Anderson of Syracuse, NY; Kendra and Brent Loope of Dayton, VA and Michael Anderson and Rebecca Lauer of Philadelphia and ten great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded Bill in death: Dorothy Buckius and June Ringer.
Bill was a graduate of J.P. McCaskey High School, Franklin & Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He began his ministry at Salem UCC in Columbia, PA, followed by Mt. Zion UCC in York, PA where he served for 20 years. His final ministry was administrator/chaplain at the Homewood Retirement Community in Hanover, PA.
He enjoyed music and sports, especially the Phillies. He sang in the choirs of Lancaster Theological Seminary and First Reformed UCC in Lancaster.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at First Reformed UCC, 40 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA, 17602 on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Schlegel officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service.
Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
