Rev. John M. Whallon, 93, a resident of Homestead Village, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at the home.
He was the husband of the late Muriel L. Platts Whallon who died in 2006. Born in Zanesville, OH he was the son of the late Walter L. and Irene Snyder Whallon.
Rev. Whallon was a 1940 graduate of Princeton University and a 1943 graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, NY for 13 years and then the First Presbyterian Church in Pleasantville, NY for 24 years. He was committed throughout his life to the cause of Native Americans.
Rev. Whallon was a member of the Church of the Apostles U.C.C. in Lancaster. He served as a chaplain in the U.S.Navy during World War II
He enjoyed tennis, sports, and following his children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors.
Surviving are two sons, Rev. Douglas husband of Mary Alexander Whallon and four children, John, Laura, Katie and Peter of Bedford, MA, and Peter husband of Pamela Heckel Whallon and two children, Leah and Carrie of Lancaster, PA,; and a daughter, Janie Louise wife of Richard Muir and three children, Nancy, Cynthia and Richard of Easton, CT.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. in the Village Commons at Homestead Village, 1800 Village Circle, Lancaster, PA. They family will greet friends following the service. Interment in Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rev.
