Rev.William Sharp

Rev. William Sharp, born in Philadelphia on Thanksgiving Day 1920, son of Albert and Catherine Sharp, died on June 18, 2015 after an extended illness.  Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne, and companion in his later years, Dee Walker.  He is survived by three daughters, Jude Sharp of Lancaster, Lois Rothenberger (married to Alan) of North Wales, and Cate Sharp (married to Eileen Bresnahan) of Colorado Springs.  Also surviving are two granddaughters and three great grandchildren.

Bill Sharp graduated from Dickinson College and Drew Seminary before being ordained as a Methodist Minister in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.  He served as pastor in Pomeroy, Bainbridge, Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk at the time), Tannersville, Lima, Upland, West Philadelphia, Easton, Frankford (Philadelphia), Swarthmore and Lancaster.  He was also District Superintendent of Lancaster County.  Bill maintained friendships with parishioners from all of these congregations throughout his lifetime.  He greatly enjoyed keeping in contact with people from as early as his childhood in Olney through to those he met after he retired to Evangelical Manor in Philadelphia.  Close friendships were central to him.

Bill Sharp loved music and especially singing.  In high school he was a member of the Olney High School acapella choir and also sang in an all-male acapella quartet.  The men of this quartet remained close friends throughout their lives; in many ways they were like brothers.  He also had a special love for Maine, enjoyed being in the mountains, traveling, and taking slides.  He maintained an interest in learning, reading and current events through all his life.  William Sharp truly loved life, his family and friends, and the United Methodist Church.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service in First United Methodist Church, corner of Duke and Walnut Streets, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.  Family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to Nature Conservancy, 15 E. Ridge Pk., Conshohocken, PA 19428 or Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, AR 72202
