Richard Brinton Strode “Dick”

Richard Brinton Strode “Dick”, 98 of Lancaster Pa. passed away Friday May 7, 2016 at Willow Valley Retirement Communities. He was the loving husband of Charmian D. Strode.

Dick was born in West Chester Pa., to F. Brinton Strode and Ada May Barber. He was a graduate of West Chester

High School, Mercersburg Academy and Leigh University. He started his career as a chemical engineer but soon

became VP of C. H. Marshall Inc. of Media Pa. He retired in 1983 after 35 years of service.

Dick was a 1st Lieutenant in the army. He served during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of 1st

Presbyterian Church of Lancaster, Leigh University Alumni Assoc., Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Mercersburg Academy

Alumni Assoc., a life member of Helen Kate Furness Library , co-founder of 707 Forum in Media, co-founder of

Nether Providence Athletic Assoc. of Wallingford, and director and past President of the Board of Directors of Child

Guidance Centers. In retirement he taught himself to make furniture and clocks and he became quite a crafstman.

One of his favorite places to be was the Wood Shop at Willow Valley North.

He is survived by his wife Charmian D. Strode, a daughter Joyce Strode Laval of charleston S.C., a sons R. Brinton

Strode of Apex N.C., a daughter Deborah S. Boggs of Ashton MD. 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service at Willow Valley North Johnson

Auditorium on Saturday June 4, 2016 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Don Hackett from 1st Presbyterian Church of

Lancaster officiating the service and Dave Chantelau, Chaplain of the Glen assisiting. Friends may greet the family

after the service. Interment will be private at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester Pa.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Heart Assoc. 610 Community Way Lancaster Pa.
