Richard H. Martin

Richard H. (Dick) Martin, 90, died Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Henry E. and Barbara S. (Hollinger) Martin.

He recently celebrated his 68

th

wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Esther K. (Keener) Martin.

Richard was a graduate of Manheim Township High School and the Lancaster Business College. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

Richard was a partner at Henry E. Martin and Sons, International Truck Sales and Service, retiring from the family business at age 55. He then became Executive Director of Menno Housing and Tabor Community Services, pursuing his passion for providing low-income families with affordable housing. He also established and operated a food bank at Arbor Place in Lancaster City.

Throughout the years, Richard served faithfully at Neffsville Mennonite Church in various capacities.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his five children: Randolph H. Martin, husband of Sherry (DeRosay) Martin, Roger E. Martin, husband of Shirley (Richer) Martin, Julie (Martin) Beittel, wife of Richard A. Beittel, Richard H. Martin, husband of Pamela (Sylvester) Martin, and Jennie (Martin) Todd, wife of Don Todd.  Also surviving are eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry E. Martin and Eugene H. Martin.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service  from Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA on Thursday, June 19

th

at 11:00 a.m.

Friends may call at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, June 18

th

from 6:00-8:00 p.m., and at the church on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Interment will be in Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery.
